This month’s post will be super short and very stream of consciousness. I’m teaching a networking workshop in April for Roadmap Writers. You can sign up here. This is my shameless plug.

Otherwise work has been meh. Since January, I’ve finished two new scripts, a pilot and feature. I’m starting on another feature. I’ve started and stopped a novel and and a play. I’m still waiting on backpay from a room and started pitching again (fingers crossed). But even with selling, deals are taking forever to close, so I’m still looking for side hustles and day job work. I sent something to my WGA Captain team that went viral online apparently here lol and on that Elon-site-I-refuse-to-name-and-link, that in March there were 92 rooms with 6 closing. This data was from the guild. With that said, I thought I’d do my due diligence and explain these numbers are only a SNAPSHOT. It’s a changing number. Keep in mind, when TV started, this number was normal and then ballooned during peak TV. Apparently, the trades have reported that peak TV was 500-600 rooms but that number has never been verified by the guild. Peak number is in the 400s. I can look it up if people are curious. I won’t editorialize too much here but there you go.

Let’s move onto something that feels empowering. I recently attended the Screenwriters Bootcamp at the WGA for writers who have broken into features recently. What was interesting was that places are still buying short stories. I thought that was a trend post strike but it’s still a thing. I posted a link to the short story that sold for my paid subscribers at the end of this. The story will be available for free subscribers later. If you write horror, I’d recommend checking out reddit, if you’re into horror. Ryan Reynolds, Sidney Sweeney etc have all been attached to stories found there.

I’ve been burnt out from my volunteer work at the guild and talks about 2026 has already begun and it’s making my skin want to crawl. If you’re a WGA writer reading this, please make sure you’re on a team.
